The reality is that these "soft skills" are significantly harder to master than most knowledge or technical based skills.

 

In line with standard approaches, CPD training, tends to last from a couple of hours to a couple of days in duration and then.... that is it. 

 

Role specific technical skills will tend to be practiced on a daily or at the least a regular basis.  Some soft skills may be used infrequently.  You will be expected to put your new skills into action without ever having done it for real with members of staff, suppliers or clients/patients. 

 

Unlike fact, process or knowledge based learning there are no manuals to refer back to, your challenges are likely to fall outside of the examples cited or even the parameters hinted at in the course.

The Professional Coaching Alliance has pioneered the combining of traditional approaches to CPD learning with a programme of individual coaching for professionals in the area of personal and business skills in particular where behavioural change is a important factor in whether the skill or knowledge can be successfully applied.

The initial response from professional bodies and associations is extremely positive.  Accreditation of our programmes has been awarded by some professional bodies but often will be granted to individuals or organisations on application.
